The union met with management to discuss the clerk duty assignments being changed and reposted. Management gave the union supporting documentation to review prior to any changes being made. After reviewing this information the union believes there are mistakes in several of the sections and have requested an additional meeting with management to discuss these possible errors and to answer any other questions we may have. This meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 3, 2017. This is the reason we have not posted the duty assignments yet.
I hope the clerk craft employees realize and understand reposting clerk jobs and all that comes with it is far more difficult than any other crafts at the P&DC. I also hope everyone knows whatever the outcome of these changes are, the APWU will make sure everything is correct per the CBA. Your job may change but in the grand scheme of things it’s just a different starting time or day(s) off, whereas, some postal employees in other installations are looking at changes which force them off of their tour, or out of their craft, or even out of their installation.
I do realize no one likes change, some less than others, but what I ask of you is first, do not listen to any rumors flying around because unfortunately we have some employees who love to see others stressed out and they will give others bad information just for that reason. Second, is to relax and allow us to do our job by getting any issues we have, resolved. Once the notices are posted please ask everything you want so you completely understand. Our next union meeting is on November 19, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the union hall. All dues paying members are welcome. I remain surprised at the lack of participation in union meetings as this is the perfect opportunity to ask everything you want to know and get answers, to share information with others so they do not feel alone, and just to become more involved and understand what we do as a union.
When I see no one at the meetings I think everything is good, because if I was upset about anything going on at work, I would be at the next union meeting wanting answers to my questions. Taking an hour or two out of my busy schedule once a month or every other month is nothing compared to not having answers to my questions or concerns. Please be patient as the jobs will be posted in November and may not be changed until after the beginning of 2018.
